Sometimes, what is happening on the ground can be shown more powerfully through images than through many words.
That is why we want to use this page to regularly share authentic impressions from our project work: people taking practical action, planting activities, young bamboo plants, preparations, joint efforts and the many small steps that can gradually grow into something much bigger.
The photographs are taken directly on site and show the work as it really happens — authentic, personal and close to the people involved.
They show more than plants or individual activities. Above all, they show the people behind the project, their commitment and the progress that becomes possible step by step.
For us, these images are more than snapshots. They document how ideas are being turned into real action.

These images show how an idea can gradually develop into real progress on the ground. Together, young plants are prepared, transported, planted and cared for — supported by people who contribute their knowledge, time and personal commitment to building a more sustainable future.
Bamboo represents far more than just a plant. It creates opportunities to connect environmental protection, education and economic prospects. Around cultivation, care, processing and future use, new knowledge can be shared, practical skills can be developed and additional income opportunities can be created.
It is especially important to us that families — and women in particular — are able to benefit from this development. Training and practical education can open new paths towards earning an independent income, achieving greater economic self-reliance and building better long-term prospects for themselves and their families.
With every new plant, the opportunity for something greater grows as well: more knowledge, new possibilities, stronger communities and a more sustainable future.

Our goal goes far beyond planting bamboo. We want to help prevent plastic waste where it originates — before it enters soils, rivers and oceans and eventually breaks down into microplastics.

Bamboo in Gambia connects practical environmental action with new opportunities for local people and shows how sustainable alternatives to plastic can be developed step by step.
Bamboo creates practical opportunities to do exactly that. This fast-growing renewable resource can be used to make a wide range of products that, wherever it is practical and appropriate, can replace plastic products or significantly reduce the need for them.
Step by step, a plant can therefore become a real alternative — for the environment, for local production and for new economic opportunities.
But lasting change does not begin with a new material alone.
Just as important is knowledge.
People need to understand why plastic waste is a problem, what happens when plastics are carelessly discarded, how microplastics are created and why openly burning plastic is not a solution.
At the same time, we want to show what alternatives exist and how collecting, reusing, separating and recycling materials can become part of functioning local systems.
Because plastic knows no borders.
If less plastic enters rivers and oceans, the long-term pressure on aquatic ecosystems can also be reduced. Fish and other marine animals are then exposed to fewer plastic particles — and ultimately, the benefits extend far beyond individual regions to people around the world.
That is where the particular strength of our project lies:
- Prevent plastic before it becomes waste.
- Develop bamboo as a sustainable alternative.
- Help people understand the consequences of plastic pollution.
- Promote reuse and recycling.
- Reduce the open burning of plastic waste.
- And at the same time create knowledge, work and new opportunities.
Aus kleinen Schritten wächst große Wirkung.
Jede Pflanzung, jede Schulung und jeder praktische Einsatz bringt das Projekt ein Stück weiter. Bambus in Gambia kann dabei Umweltarbeit, neue Fähigkeiten und nachhaltige Perspektiven miteinander verbinden.
Bambus kann mehr als nur wachsen.
Was wir heute aufbauen, kann morgen Vorbild sein.
Aus Bambus können langlebige Alternativen zu zahlreichen Kunststoffprodukten entstehen. Gleichzeitig schafft sein Anbau Möglichkeiten für Weiterbildung, lokale Verarbeitung und neue Verdienstmöglichkeiten.
Wenn Plastik vermieden, Wertstoffe gesammelt und funktionierende Kreisläufe geschaffen werden, profitieren Umwelt und Menschen gleichermaßen. Erfolgreiche Lösungen können später auch anderen Gemeinden und Projekten als Beispiel dienen.
Wenn solche Lösungen im Alltag funktionieren, dokumentiert und weiterentwickelt werden, können daraus Erfahrungen entstehen, die auch für andere Gemeinden, Regionen und Länder wertvoll sind.
Unser Anspruch ist deshalb nicht, von heute auf morgen das weltweite Plastikproblem zu lösen.
Unser Anspruch ist, konkret anzufangen, funktionierende Lösungen aufzubauen und zu zeigen, was möglich ist.
Was heute lokal beginnt, kann morgen zum Vorbild für viele weitere Projekte werden.
